Submitted by gbrandon on Mon, 02/01/2010 - 10:00am[FCPS requires that after-school programs must be managed by school PTAs. As such, Chesterbrook PTA will use this webform to collect parents' GOTR registration for the program lottery and manually input the data into GOTR's registration/lottery system. Because of the interest in the GOTR program, GOTR uses a lottery system to select 20 participants at random for each of the FCPS 105 programs.]
Girls on the Run® Mission: To educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls in grades 3 - 5. The program combines training for a 5K (3.1 mile) running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development.
Girls on the Run® meets in groups of up to 20 participants, twice weekly -- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 PM -- for a one hour session to prepare for and complete the 5K. The program uses an innovative and fun curriculum designed exclusively for pre-teen girls to address specific life skills through the use of games, warm-ups and workouts.
Girls on the Run® participants explore the importance of being physically, mentally and emotionally helathy. They examine body image issues, stereotyping and discriminatory behaviors, as well as the importance of maintaining a realistic and healthy view of themselves.
Girls on the Run® concludes with the 5K that includes all the Northern Virginia GOTR girls. GOTR recommends that each girl have a partner ("buddy") to run with them, so this is a great opportunity for you or another adult to join her in the successful conclusion to her season. A link to register as a buddy will be on the GOTR of NOVA website (www.girlsontherunofnova.org) once registration begins. For non-runner families, GOTR will try to provide a volunteer buddy runner to safely escort your daughter across the finish line.
To register for GOTR, complete one webform for each child. If your child is selected for the Chesterbrook program (i.e., "wins" the registration/lottery), you will be required to submit a fee to Chesterbrook PTA by Sunday, February 28. (See below.)
There Is A 20-Girl Maximum -- NO EXCEPTIONS.
KEY DATES:
- Deadline For Parents To Submit This Registration/Lottery Webform: Wednesday, February 10, 10:00 PM
- Participant Selection (Or Non-Selection) Notification By GOTR: Week of February 15.
- Deadline For Tuition Payment To Chesterbrook PTA/Chipmunk Avenue: Sunday, February 28. (Chipmunk Avenue will open to enrollment payment on Friday, February 19.)

- Date And Location Of 5K Running Event: To Be Determined.
Our Chesterbrook GOTR manager, Anna Kraus, and coaches, Nicole Hauser and Stephanie Dillman, will take the information you provide in this webform and input it into GOTR's registration/lottery system. You will receive an automatically-generated email from the GOTR registration/lottery system after they do the manual transfer.
Program fee: The standard fee is $165* to which the PTA will add a $4 handling fee. Each girl receives two shirts, a water bottle, a snack after each session, and entry into the final 5K. Please initial below if you need a reduced fee or are part of Virginia's free/reduced lunch program. No girl is denied enrollment due to financial circumstances.

Chipmunk Avenue
Submitted by gbrandon on Sun, 01/10/2010 - 10:00amIf You Do Not See The Chipmunk Avenue Block In The
Left Sidebar Area, Please Refresh Your Screen.
Chipmunk Avenue is the name of the PTA's new online catalog/store. It is the new method for registering for After-School Programs such as Art Outreach and Drama Club, and Summer Quest and for purchasing School Kits and renewing PTA Memberships. Although this is a new feature for the Chesterbrook PTA, those of us who regularly do online shopping through Amazon.com, L.L. Bean, etc. will recognize many of the same steps that those stores use.
Art Outreach and Drama Club registration for the Winter-Spring sessions begins on Thursday, January 14 at 6:00 PM. Chipmunk Avenue will be available as a "block" in the left sidebar of this homepage. The block will have a link to the After-School Programs registration page.
Here are the steps after you get to the After-School Programs page:
- If you have a PTA website/account, you might want to first log-in before proceeding with your order.
- Choose the Art or Drama class you want to register your child for. Click on the class link to read the details.
- Fill in your child's LAST Name, FIRST Name and select his/her teacher. Click on "Add to Cart."
- Review the Shopping Cart. If you meant to sign-up for a different class, check the "Remove" box and then click on "Update." If you want to sign-up another child, then click on "Continue Shopping." Otherwise click on "Checkout."
- If you are already logged-in to the PTA website, confirm that the email address on the "Checkout" page is correct; if not, edit as necessary. Fill in your billing information. Note that when you become a repeat customer (Summer Quest registration is coming soon) and you are logged-in to the PTA website, you should be able to use the "Saved addresses" feature which will pre-populate the billing information. Choose your method of payment: The PayPal radio button with the credit card logos is what you should use if you don't want to open a PayPal account. If you do have a PayPal account, use either radio button. Checks are always welcome! If you select the "Check or money order" radio button a box will open with instructions to send the check and copy of the invoice to the Treasurer. (The store will automatically send customers an invoice/receipt.) There is a comments block you can use to communicate special instructions. Click on "Review order."
- Review the order, make corrections as necessary, and then click on "Submit order."
- If you chose PayPal, you will need to either log into your PayPal account and proceed as usual, or choose the credit card route and proceed as directed.
- You will need to complete a separate Emergency Contact webform.
You may notice a "Shopping Cart" in the left sidebar. This tells you that you have an incomplete order in the system.
One of the convenient features of the new system is that it will "remember" customers' basic information -- name, address, phone number -- and pre-populate the boxes. The best way to take advantage of this is to be logged into the website.
PayPal is our credit card processing provider. PayPal does not require that customers have a personal PayPal account in order to register for classes or purchase items.
Personal checks are always an acceptable method of payment. Just check the "Check or money order" radio button on the Checkout page. Make checks payable to Chesterbrook PTA and send it to Treasurer, Chesterbrook PTA. Please include the Order Number on the Memo line.
Finally, this is a new system. Please let us know what you think about it so we can improve it. Thank you for your patience.
